Advanced Modern Hebrew I

This course develops proficiency in advanced Israeli Hebrew, while also examining materials drawn from the early twentieth century, including prose, poetry, and visual media. Students will develop their listening comprehension, reading, writing, and conversational skills by focusing on different language styles and communicative functions. Particular attention will be paid to irregular linguistic forms and emergent vocabulary, language registers, and the history and development of Israeli Hebrew. Materials will range from film and television to blogs, graphic novels, novellas, and music.

Prerequisite: MHB 256H1/NML 255Y1 or permission of the instructor.
Exclusion: OAC Hebrew/NML 355Y1.
